The program would help properties generate revenue instead of taking it out of the city
City commissioner Chris Pike is suggesting the City take advantage of a land bank and other programs when dealing with blighted properties.
With the new programs, blighted properties could be offered up to developers. Properties could then generate revenue instead of taking taxpayer money. The program will help property owners as well. If a property owner owes delinquent taxes, but can't pay, if he chooses to hand the property over to the land bank the city will forgive all taxes.
City Manager Al Lott says they are talking to the City and Dougherty County attorneys about the program.
