Moultrie police are investigating what they call a severe case of elderly abuse.

Investigators say 34-year-old Tasha Chambers and 55-year-old Royce Dillard, Jr. have been abusing 74-year-old Christine Welch. Investigators say Welch is in the hospital recovering from severe malnourishment. They say she weighs 80 pounds, has bed sores infested with maggots, and will probably lose both of her feet. Welch was living on 3rd street northwest and Chambers and Dillard were in charge of caring for her. None of the three are related.

The two face felony charges of cruelty to a person 65 or older. Police arrested them around five this afternoon. Doctors say Welch is doing well for her condition. Police are continuing to investigate and more charges are pending.
