Dr. Joshua Murfree is officially named the best qualified candidate to be the next Dougherty County Superintendent
In a four to three vote in last night’s Dougherty County School Board meeting Dr. Joshua Murfree was officially named the best qualified candidate.
Board Chairman David Maschke, and board members Emily McAfee and Michael Windom were the three members who voted against Murfree.
The vote is a requirement in order to move forward with the hiring process. Maschke says the board has a lot of work to do including reviewing Murfree’s proposed contract this Friday in an special called executive session. “We have to hammer out a contract that is agreeable to both parties, the school board and Dr. Murfree, and then if accepted by both parties we would have to agree on a start and end date” says Maschke.
The school board is also in the process of applying for a special waiver from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission because Murfree doesn’t have the required L-7 leadership certificate required for the superintendent position.
