Local organization leads charge for awareness
Today officially kicked off National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and one local child advocacy organization is leading the charge to draw awareness to the problem. Open Arms placed 400 pinwheels in front of the Albany Mall to recognize the 400 abused or neglected children they’ve helped since April 2009.
Executive Director Fonda Strong says a child abuser’s past sometimes influences their present and future.
“Maybe they have been abused and have just not dealt with the issue and a lot of times, until you break that cycle, it continues,” said Strong.
The pinwheels will be up throughout April.
