Albany State University’s president says they’re still looking to the future despite possible state budget cuts.

Dr. Everett Freeman spoke to Dougherty County Rotarians about the university’s master plan Tuesday afternoon. Freeman says they’re going to keep planning for expansion despite a possible $300 million budget cut to the University College System of Georgia. One big project for Albany State is the Ray Charles Performing Arts Center. The project got cut out of last year's budget, but Freeman says he’s hopeful they can get the $26 million funding this year.

“It will create 440 jobs opportunities in southwest Georgia, have a multiplier effect of about $57 million on that simple $26 million investment,” Freeman said.

Freeman then hopes to get funding for actually building the project in 2011.
