Mardi Gras weekend is over, and organizers are busy calculating the economic impact on southwest Georgia.

Visitors from across the country packed downtown Albany for Mardi Gras, and although organizers don’t have complete numbers, they say they’re confident the event brought in at least three million dollars. Lisa Riddle with the Convention and Visitors Bureau says 1,156 runners completed the half and full Snickers marathon and tens of thousands came downtown throughout the day.

Organizers say planning for next year’s Mardi Gras, which they say will be bigger than this year, starts now.
