Mardi Gras weekend in Albany is over, but a new Sunday event kept southwest Georgians busy.

The first-ever Sounds of Praise concert wrapped up Mardi Gras weekend at the Veteran’s Park Amphitheater. Earea Woodson and other organizers from the group Deceased Daddy’s Daughters put on the event. The concert is in honor of fathers lost to disease, the line of duty, or violence. About 20 performers took the stage.

“We just thought after the Mardi Gras celebration here that this would be a great time just to give God the praises of what he’s done for Albany, Georgia and the surrounding counties,” said Woodson.

The group chose to give all proceeds from the six hour concert to three families each grieving the loss of a father.
