Code and law enforcement are targeting smaller areas of blight and crime in East Albany
Neighbors living south of Moultrie and Mobile Roads might have noticed an increased police presence this week.
It’s part of a new approach where code and law enforcement team up to fight blight and crime. Code Enforcement flagged 67 homes and businesses within a few square miles around Moultrie Road. The buildings are vacant, dilapidated or unkempt. They along with the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office and gang unit hit the target areas Monday. Deputies made two arrests.
“Crime tends to flourish with blighted communities,” said Dougherty County Sheriff Kevin Sproul. “We’re out here letting the homeowners know, we’re letting the property owners know, that we care about the part of the community.”
Code Enforcement plans on targeting a different ward every three months.
