Albany's rates to come out next week

New Georgia unemployment numbers came out and it’s not good news.

The Georgia Department of Labor reported that the state's unemployment rate rose to 10.4 percent in January, topping the previous record high of 10.3 percent reported in December.  For 28 straight months now, Georgia’s unemployment rate has exceeded the national rate.

Albany’s unemployment rates most likely will come out next week.  Meanwhile, economics professor at Darton College Aaron Johnson says there’s a correlation between high unemployment rates and limited economic activity.

“Seeing numbers that aren’t improving, seeing that the job situation hasn’t gotten better that’s going to make us less likely to make these large purchases, you know, go out and eat as much.  These are drivers that can improve the economy,” said Johnson.
