Albany Technical College just got a little greener.

The school held its annual Arbor Day celebration Thursday morning. Students planted another tree on campus in honor of the holiday. City of Albany Arborist Ili Si Malone says trees give us more than just shade.

“If you plant deciduous trees or trees that don’t have leaves in the winter on the south side of your house, you will reduce your heating costs in the winter because the sun will come through, and the room will be warmer,” said Malone. “In the summer it’ll have leaves, and shade the house, and reduce your cooling cost significantly.”

The Arbor Day Foundation has designated Albany Tech as a Tree Campus USA.
