Warm weather causes people to forget about flu
The Dougherty County Health Department administered 86 free H1N1 vaccines a few weeks back and today they held another free vaccination day.
For those who think the threat of the H1N1 virus has left Southwest Georgia, you’re wrong says Dougherty County Health Department’s Suzette Profit.
“The flu peak has still yet to come so we’d still like to encourage everyone if you haven’t to please come by and get your H1N1 flu shot,” said Profit.
So why have people gotten lazy about their health?
“I think when it’s warm people tend to think okay the flu is over it’s too late to get it and they’re just out enjoying the warm weather. But as I said the flu season hasn’t peaked, we’re still in February,” said Profit.
The Dougherty County Public Health Department has administered nearly 2700 H1N1 vaccines since it began doing it in October. Keep in mind if your child is nine and under they’re going to need two vaccines.
“All children that took it that was age nine and younger should have gotten a second dose 30 days from receiving the first dose. So if they haven’t please call your doctor’s office or local health department to get that arranged to have that done,” said Profit.
