There's a new number to call if you want assistance from the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing program

There’s a new number to call for Southwest Georgians looking for assistance from the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing program.

If you want to apply for help, call 1-866-387-2657. Faye Turney with the Salvation Army says they were getting so many calls at the Albany office and throughout Georgia, the stimulus program set up a statewide number.

“After they do the initial screening through Atlanta they're going to e-mail us names and phone numbers,” said Turney. “We're going to call back, do another screening to make sure that everything was covered and then we'll bring them in for interviews.”

The program helps those who are homeless or are on the brink of homelessness get back on their feet. Turney is in charge of the Homelessness Prevention program and Melinda Allen is in charge of the Rapid Re-Housing portion. They cover Dougherty, Lee, Randolph, Clay, Terrell, Calhoun, Worth, Turner, Baker, Early, Miller, Seminole, Decatur, and Mitchell counties.
