(AP) -- SUSPECT CAPTURED
GA man wanted for rape captured in SC
ATLANTA (AP) - Authorities have captured a 34-year-old man
facing child molestation and rape charges.
Authorities found Akim Jamal Miller in Hilton Head, South
Carolina.
Griffin Police Investigator Bryan Clanton says authorities had
issued seven arrest warrants for Miller last week but could not
find him.
He says the case was then referred to the U.S. Marshals, who
helped locate Miller at a family member's apartment. Police
arrested Miller Tuesday without incident and took him to Beaufort
County jail, where he is awaiting extradition.
Miller's charges include eight counts of child molestation,
seven counts of enticing a child for indecent purposes and four
counts of rape.
BOTCHED FIRE RESPONSE RETRANSMITS
Firefighter fired following botched response
DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - DeKalb County officials have fired another
firefighter involved in the response to a Dunwoody blaze that left
a 74-year-old woman dead.
DeKalb Public Safety Director William Miller says Captain Sell
Caldwell was fired following a brief internal investigation.
Caldwell was among the crew that responded to an early morning
call from Ann Bartlett, reporting her house was on fire.
Firefighters responded to a call for help, but officials say
they didn't get out of their vehicles at the scene and saw no
evidence of a fire.
Five hours later, the house was engulfed in flames and Bartlett
had died.
The firing follows the Tuesday resignation of Fire Chief David
Foster.

SCHOOL ACCREDITATION
Liaisons named to help struggling school district
ATLANTA (AP) - Governor Sonny Perdue has named two liaisons to
help an east Georgia school district regain its accreditation.
Last month the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
yanked the 800-student district's certification because of problems
with the school board. SACS officials say the board failed to
follow policies of the district and refused to sign its ethics
pledge.
Perdue has asked state Board of Education members Jim Bostic and
Brad Bryant to help the struggling district. The pair also helped
the Clayton County school district when it lost accreditation in
2008.
The district regained its status last year.
RAPPING SOLDIER
Rapping soldier moved to Kuwait for trial
SAVANNAH, GA (AP) - The Army says a soldier jailed in Georgia
on charges that he made deadly threats in a hip-hop recording is
being moved to Kuwait to face a court-martial.
A Fort Stewart spokesman said Wednesday that Spc. Marc A. Hall
of Coward, South Carolina, will be flown to Kuwait, where he will
remain confined until he stands trial. The Army says Hall is being
transferred because most witnesses in the case are soldiers who
have since deployed to Iraq.
Hall has been jailed in southeast Georgia since December. The
Army says Hall threatened to go on a shooting spree in a hip-hop
song he recorded to vent his anger over being kept in the military
by the unpopular "stop-loss" program.
Hall's military attorney did not immediately return a call
seeking comment.
