The city of Albany has hired the Mercer Group to find a replacement to Don Buie. Buie is serving one year in jail for stealing taxpayer money

The City of Albany will start its search for the next downtown manager in a few days.

Assistant City Manager Wes Smith says the city will use Mercer Group to find candidates and then the city will choose from that group. The city will then perform extensive background checks. Smith says the job is a hard sell given the recent conviction of former Downtown Manager Don Buie.

“I think ADICA has some exciting opportunities there that someone who’s aggressive and would like that opportunity could really come in and really make a difference, but yes, we do think it’s going to be challenging,” Smith said. “That’s why Mercer is in the mix.”

The search and hiring process will take about three months.
