Authorities say 52-year-old Debra Brannon of Newnan died on January 18 when her car went into the pond

(AP) -- A Newnan man has died after his car ran off the road into the same storm water retention pond where a woman died in a similar accident about a week earlier.

Authorities say 52-year-old Debra Brannon of Newnan died on January 18  when her car went into the pond.  Authorities in Newnan say that friends of Brannon's family had stopped by the pond around 10 a.m. Sunday to see where she died.

They noticed a vehicle in the pond and thought it was Brannon's at first. Then they remembered her car had been towed and flagged down a passing Coweta County Fire Department vehicle.

Emergency workers pulled 31-year-old James Willis of Newnan from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
