Seven Taliban militants assaulted the center of Kabul on Monday
(AP) -- The U.S. Army general overseeing the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan says a series of suicide attacks in the Afghan capital Monday showed both the resilience and resourcefulness of Taliban militants in the country.
Gen. David Petraeus, head of U.S. Central Command, told a luncheon audience in Atlanta Tuesday he was impressed with how security forces limited casulaties during the brazen attacks in Kabul, but acknowledged the attacks were impressive as well.
Seven Taliban militants assaulted the center of Kabul on Monday with suicide bombings and gunbattles near the presidential palace and other government buildings. Twelve people were killed, including the attackers.
Still, Petraeus said the U.S. military is seeing some progress in Afghanistan with a gradual increase of thousands of U.S. soldiers arriving as part of a troop surge in the country.
