The Coalition to End Homelessness has big plans to help more homeless folks off the street during the day -- a chronic problem that has plagued Albany for years.

The Coalition plans to secure the former Monroe Outreach Center at 206 South Monroe Street and turn it into a day center so homeless folks can wash their clothes, receive mail and pick up referrals for service providers. Most shelters require their residents to leave during the day, forcing them on the streets to look for jobs. However, some folks, like Lisa Scott who is homeless, say the homeless need help of a different kind.

“Most of these people that are at these homeless shelters, the most that you can do to help them, they have drug and alcohol problems. Get 'em treatment like an AA group or something that can council them,” Said Scott.

The Coalition hopes to secure the building soon, they are still in talks with the owners.
