Stevens and Shelton have outstanding warrants

Law enforcement in Albany and Dougherty County are searching for two people who they believe are the masterminds of a check cashing ring.

Police are after 37-year-old Willie Stevens and his 38-year-old cousin, Alfreda Shelton. Stevens and Shelton have allegedly been stealing Social Security checks out of local mailboxes. Police say the checks have altered amounts when cashed.

“Primarily from elderly people because they know when the checks are gonna be coming and then they alter the amounts to much greater amounts,” said Captain Jimmy Sexton.

If you have any information on Stevens or Shelton call Crime Stoppers at 436-TIPS.
