Boats from local agencies and volunteers continued to comb through Lake Chehaw Sunday, looking for any sign of 77-year-old Fannie Corley

Another day of a multi-agency search for a missing Lee County woman has wrapped up, and there’s still no sign of Fannie Corley.

Boats from local agencies and volunteers continued to comb through Lake Chehaw Sunday, looking for any sign of 77-year-old Corley. The search now in its fourth day has been scaled back. The Albany Fire Department and Department of Natural Resources are using sonar, drag lines, and more to try and find Corley who disappeared on Christmas Eve. Her abandoned car was found on the Jefferson Street Bridge  over the lake. Corley was nowhere to be found.

K-9 dogs tracked Corley’s last scent to the bridge and that’s why they’re searching the water. However, rescue teams are battling cold temperatures and a strong current. DNR Ranger Ben Roberts says that means even if Corley’s body is in the water, it could be anywhere.

Lee County Sheriff Reggie Rachals says they’re not labeling Corley’s disappearance as a suicide or homicide, and are calling the search a recovery.

“As the week goes they’ll be people still patrolling the water and hopefully tomorrow (Monday) they’ll be getting a hold of a person who handles cadaver dogs,” Rachals said. “We’ll have them up here in the boat doing what they know how to do.”

Corley is a cancer survivor and wears a head scarf, She is 5’1 and 120 pounds. Call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 229-759-6012 if you have any information on Corley’s whereabouts.
