The charity's 2009 Red Kettle Campaign goal is to raise $1.6 million by Christmas Eve
(AP) -- Red kettles are everywhere for the holidays - but Salvation Army officials say they're still not meeting annual donation goals.
The charity's 2009 Red Kettle Campaign goal is to raise $1.6 million by Christmas Eve. Major Jim Seiler is Salvation Army Metro Atlanta's Area Commander. He says the campaign has raised over $1,064,000 to date and hopes to get a big boost as shoppers come out to grab last minute gifts and toss change into over 240 kettles throughout metro Atlanta.
Seiler says the kettle program historically sees an increase of around 7 percent each year, but that last year's effort saw a decline of $19,000 over the 2007 totals.
