Lee County High School stage car wreck

Lee County High School students had an up close look today at why it’s not safe to text while driving.

Members of Lee County law enforcement, with the help from students at Lee County High School staged a mock accident.  The wreck occurred because of teenager’s texting while driving.

19 states and the District of Columbia have already banned texting by all drivers, while nine other states prohibit it by young drivers.  Having texting while driving banned altogether in Georgia is currently in legislation, and many say the law needs to be passed, including Lee County High School Principal Kevin Dowling.

“I really hope that they’ll make a really big deal out of it and pass some kind of legislation, which helps us or the police or whoever to put some teeth into it because it is dangerous,” said Dowling.

Lee County Sheriff Reggie Rachals said texting is just as dangerous as driving while under the influence of alcohol.
