The civil rights institute welcomed newly appointed Executive Director Lee Formwalt and Board Chair Charlie Crapps at a reception Tuesday

The Albany Civil Rights Institute is under new leadership and they tell FOX 31 News they’ve got a lot of work to do.

The civil rights institute welcomed newly appointed Executive Director Lee Formwalt and new Board Chair Charlie Crapps at a reception Tuesday afternoon. Both men say their biggest challenge is fundraising for the museum. Formwalt, a former Albany Sate University history professor, is also planning membership drives and tourism promotions.

Formwalt says he wants the Albany museum to become just as big as civil rights displays in Birmingham, Alabama and Atlanta.
