Norwood plans to ask for a re-count Tuesday

(AP) -- Secretary of State Karen Handel is investigating a complaint that a handful of voters in the November election for Atlanta mayor cast ballots in the wrong precinct.

Fulton County elections director Barry Garner said Monday night that his office has identified 33 voters who used their old address to vote. He said most of the voters had moved after public housing projects in the city were shuttered and demolished.

Handel's spokesman Matt Carrothers said the secretary's office is giving the probe "top priority," but he declined to say how long the investigation will take.  Former state Sen. Kasim Reed edged out city councilwoman Mary Norwood by 715 votes in the Dec. 1 runoff election for the nonpartisan mayor's office.

Norwood plans to ask for a re-count Tuesday.
