Christmas is less than three weeks away and southwest Georgia golfers helped raise money for families in need Sunday.
Almost 150 golfers played in the eighth annual Bob DeSimone Charity Golf Event at River Pointe to benefit Toys for Tots. All the proceeds go to the program that gives Christmas gifts to children whose parents cannot afford them. Organizers say the event raises about $14,000 each year and brings in about 250 gifts. The Marine Corps Logistics Base and Salvation Army are collecting toys and cash donations until December 19.
Toys for Tots donates presents to 7,000 children locally and seven million across the country.
