A local businessman is giving back to his community by beginning a mentoring program for elementary school boys

Darryl Harper, owner of Miracle’s Beauty and Barber Salon, facilitated the first mentoring session for ten Turner Elementary School third grade boys.

The program will begin with third grade boys, and it will expand to include more boys from other grade levels over time.

Harper says in today’s society Albany’s young men need a mentor now more than ever.  “A lot of the kids now don’t have stability, and we’re trying to show them stability.  Show them that you don’t have to be in a gang, you don’t have to be affiliated with certain groups to be successful in life” says Harper.

Topics for the mentoring session will include self esteem, peer pressure, and appearance.
