The Georgia Department of Labor released new unemployment claim numbers for October and the news is mixed.

1,219 people filed for first-time unemployment in October, and labor department statistics show that number is down 7.4 percent from October 2008. However, Communications Director Sam Hall says the average time it takes for the unemployed to find new work is on the rise. It now takes job seekers an average of 14 weeks to get a job, up from 11.

Albany is one of seven metropolitan areas in Georgia to have a decrease in jobless claims.
