Cutaway buses, look like church buses or hotel shuttle vans, but are a little larger
The Macon Transit Authority is pushing to replace about half its fleet of 29 buses.
General manager Rick Jones says the authority needs more reliable buses that won't break down and keep people from getting to work on time.
The new buses, called cutaway buses, look like church buses or hotel shuttle vans, but are a little larger. Jones says they cost about $107,000, a third of the price of a traditional bus.
Jones says he hopes to get clearance soon from the state to collect federal money needed to buy the new buses next year.
He wants to get about 10 cutaway buses and two traditional buses.
