The Albany Fire Department has four new battalion chiefs to improve the efficiency of the department.
The fire department has had one battalion chief per work shift in charge of all resources, people management, and time management.
Because the Albany Fire Department has 11 stations and covers a significant portion of South Georgia they decided it would be better to have two battalion chiefs to manage the large number of firefighters.
Chief James Carswell says “It’s become impossible for one person to do everything we require them to do on a daily basis with the amount of stations. With the help of Mr.. Al Lott we’ve decided we’ll go to a two battalion concept.”
Each battalion chief will be in charge of half of the district during their shift and these changes will go into effect October 17.
