Three sisters died from injuries suffered when their Duluth townhouse caught fire Friday. The sisters’ father, Rufus Wingfield, III, and extended family are from Albany.

The funeral for three sisters who died in a Gwinnett County fire will be held in Dougherty County.

12-year-old Amirra Wingfield, 17-year-old Dairien Wingfield, and 19-year-old LaToya Jackson died from injuries suffered when their Duluth townhouse caught fire Friday night. The sisters’ father, Rufus Wingfield, III, and extended family are from Albany, GA.

Rhema Word International Ministries Senior Pastor Victor Powell went to visit the family in Atlanta on Saturday and says the family is doing as well as can be expected. Powell says Rufus Wingfield is a sergeant major in the United States Army and flew back from Afghanistan when he found out about his daughters’ deaths.

“We do pray and ask that the community would stand with the family and pray with the family,” Powell said.

Fire investigators say the girls’ mother escaped the fire, but the sisters were trapped in a closet on the third flood. Medical examiners say they died from smoke inhalation. The fire's cause is still under investigation.

The family is in the process of planning funeral arrangements at Rhema Word on Williamsburg Rd.
