The Liberty House hosts a workshop to educate the community on how different agencies protect child victims of domestic violence.
Attendees learned about various agencies and the responsibilities they have in helping children and teens who are victims of sexual abuse and/or domestic violence.
Panel members say one of the biggest challenges they face is educating the child victims and trying to break the cycle of violence. Sumter County Director of Children's Advocate Services Brad Ray says many of the abusers were often abused as children themselves.
The panel discussed the difference between TV shows that solve crimes in a limited amount of time and how things work with various agencies and the courts in real life.
Participating agencies include The Liberty House, The Lily Pad, The Albany District Attorney's Office, The Department of Family and Child Services, and The Dougherty County Internet Sex Crime Unit.
