More than 4,000 students learned about fire safety through skits and songs at the Albany Fire Department's 15th annual "Kid's Fire Safety Day"
The Albany Fire Department hosted its 15th annual "Kid's Fire Safety Day" at the Albany Civic Center.
More than 4,000 school children from 9 counties in southwest Georgia attended the event.
Firefighters assisted by clowns, local and state officials, and a giant dancing smoke detector taught lessons about fire safety through songs, dances, and skits.
Topics covered include how smoke detectors can save your life, what to do if you catch on fire (stop, drop, and roll), and why kids shouldn't play with matches.
Commissioner John Oxendine of the Georgia Department of Insurance and Fire Safety asked all students in attendance to ask their parents to create a fire drill plan at home in case of an emergency.
