Demolition of three vacant former University of Georgia fraternity houses is scheduled for today
(AP) -- Demolition was scheduled to begin on Monday for three vacant former University of Georgia fraternity houses as university officials clear the way for additional academic buildings.
The demolition of the former homes of Phi Delta Theta, Pi Kappa Alpha and Tau Epsilon Phi will leave just two fraternity houses standing in the area.
One of the two remaining fraternities, Chi Phi, is scheduled to move out next year.
UGA officials plan to redevelop the former fraternity row into new academic buildings, including new homes for the College of Family and Consumer Sciences and the Terry College of Business.
Tau Epsilon Phi, Phi Delta Theta and Pi Kappa Alpha moved this August into new houses near Sanford Stadium.
