(AP) -- Columbia County students who were on their way to school when their bus was in a crash have been sent to the hospital for minor injuries.

Columbia County Sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris said nine students were hurt in the crash, which occurred around 6:50 Tuesday morning.  He said the bus was loading pupils bound for Harlem High and Harlem Middle schools when it was hit from behind at a bus stop by a 1987 Nissan pickup.

Neither driver was seriously injured, but nine of the 27 pupils on the bus complained of back and neck injuries and were taken to Doctors Hospital to be checked.

Morris said the driver of the pickup, 20-year-old William Pitts, was charged with following too closely.
