Albany ethanol transportation hub

The Georgia Emergency Management Agency holds a hazardous materials training course today for local firefighters involving ethanol.

Authorities say Albany is a hub for transporting the product that is manufactured in neighboring counties. On a regular basis, by railway or truck, ethanol is shipped all over Southwest Georgia which makes the potential for a spill higher.

Fire crews say water won’t work on spills of this nature and specialized foam is used in its place.
