Rolling storms shut down school systems across parts of north Georgia
(AP) -- At least two people have died as thunderstorms rumbling across north Georgia spawned heavy downpours that flooded roads and homes and dumped as much as 20 inches of rain in the area over three days.
Emergency workers in Lawrenceville say they found a woman dead in her vehicle, which was submerged in water after having been swept from the road by flooding. Dena Brummer of the Georgia Emergency Management Agency says that another person died in Douglas County after a vehicle was washed off the roadway.
The rolling storms shut down school systems across parts of north Georgia. It also flooded homes, washed out some roads and left standing water on some busy metro Atlanta highways.
