A mobile home as well as an apartment were also set on fire intentionally, officials say
Three major fires over the weekend keep fire officials on their toes.
The Albany Fire Department had anything but a relaxing holiday weekend. It started Saturday when crews were called to an apartment on Avalon Avenue. Curtains were set on fire as well as the back door area. Officials believe it was set on purpose, as was a vehicle fire Sunday morning, which Fire Chief James Carswell says, may have been gang retaliation. Another fire officials are looking into is a mobile home that caught fire Monday morning in the Mimosa Trailer Park off of Clark Avenue, which was the scene of a major drug sting operation just two weeks ago. Several items were taken from the mobile home, which makes arson investigator Sam Harris, believe the crime and the fire are linked.
“We're looking for some ladies who had gone in there and taken some stuff out and they probably set the trailer on fire to cover up the crime. Some of the property that was taken from the trailer was recovered in an abandoned trailer out here,” Said Harris.
According to police reports, five DVD's valued at $50 and some clothes valued at $60 were stolen.
