ATLANTA (AP) — A student at Atlanta's Spelman College is dead, after being hit by a stray bullet while walking on a neighboring college campus with friends early today.
Police say Jasmine Lynn of Kansas City, Mo., was hit in the chest when shots were fired during a fight nearby on the campus of Clark Atlanta University.
Police say a Clark Atlanta student who was with her was hit on the wrist, and was treated at a hospital.
Police say one of the friends heard the gunfire and saw the weapon, and told Lynn to get on the ground. They say as she was doing so, Lynn was shot in the chest. She was taken to a hospital, where she died.
A memorial service has been held at the chapel of Spelman College, part of the historically black Atlanta University Center.
The school's president says it's "the kind of horrible incident that could have happened anywhere."
