(AP) -- An Atlanta man says Florida officials have called off a search for his son, who has been missing since Sunday and appears to be a victim of Tropical Storm Claudette.
Donald Hoyt said his 45-year-old son, Cambren Hoyt of Atlanta, is presumed dead. The elder Hoyt said his son sailed into St. Andrew bay Sunday afternoon, a few ours before Claudette was forecast to cross the Florida Panhandle. He was accompanied by two recent acquaintances, Megan Mapletoft and Larry Phelps.
Around 5 p.m. Sunday, the boat grounded several hundred yards off shore. A mayday call was issued, but by the time the Coast Guard got there, Cambren Hoyt had left in an inflatable dinghy to seek help and wasn't seen again.
