Veterinarians warn Albany residents not to approach wild dogs
Wild dogs roam Albany's streets and you may be surprised at the advice local vets have if you come face to face with a wild dog.
"I would face him head on if it's coming at me whether it’s a single dog or a pack" says Albany veterinarian Charlie Derison.
Many vets say if you turn your back and run – it emboldens the dog to chase you down. If you do get caught vets say to cover your face and throat.
Any domesticated pet can be classified as a wild dog if they are roaming freely according to state laws. Dog owners must have their dogs on a leash while outside or be in an enclosed area so the dog can’t escape.
Just because you don’t see wild dogs in your neighborhood doesn’t mean they're not in Albany
"We see it very regularly probably once every week or two that somebody brings a stray dog in. We’ll get it seen and make sure it doesn’t have any major issues and try to find it a home" says Denison.
