(AP) -- A fire in Columbus has left nine people temporarily without a home. Columbus Fire and EMS Battalion Chief Bobby Dutton said the blaze was spotted around 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Firefighters arrived on the scene four minutes later.
Dutton said no one was home when the fire began in the home's kitchen. He said the cause was not immediately determined. Dutton said the fire climbed from the kitchen to the attic, where most of the damage was done. He said the living portion of the home was virtually unharmed, except for wet sheetrock falling on furniture. Firefighters used tarps to cover the family's belongings.
Dutton said the Red Cross had been contacted and would provide aid.
