Nearly 48 million Americans don't have health insurance
It took a whole three minutes until the healthcare issue was brought up by a concerned citizen. In fact, healthcare dominated the entire 50 minute town hall meeting. Nearly 48 million Americans do not have healthcare. U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson says changes can be made so those 48 million or so can acquire it.
“Insurance is not portable and risk pools, meaning the number of people insured to be covered by the risk is small because it’s state. If you expanded the risk pool nationwide by nature you’d have more affordable insurance because you’d have a broader base of participants to level the risk,” said Isakson.
One citizen pointed out that he continues to see prices on CAT scans and other medical procedures continue to rise because he thinks doctors are becoming more fearful of malpractice suits. Isakson says combating higher prices can begin with you taking care of you.
“Everything we can do to promote wellness and disease management, helps to lower that excelling curve of healthcare costs and over time flatten it and even lower it,” said Isakson.
