Indictment alleges that Eichholz took more than $950,000 from two employee pension benefit plans
(AP) -- A Savannah personal injury attorney has been indicted on charges he embezzled nearly $1 million from his law firm's employee pension plan.
U.S. Attorney Edmund A. Booth Junior said Thursday that a federal grand jury has returned a 77-count indictment for 58-year-old Benjamin S. Eichholz of the Eichholz Law Firm. The indictment alleges that Eichholz took more than $950,000 from two employee pension benefit plans from 2001 to 2008 and falsified documents for the U.S. Department of Labor to conceal it. He is charged with embezzlement, money laundering, false statements in documents, obstruction of proceedings and false statements.
Eichholz declined comment, referring calls to his attorney, Michael Weinstock. Weinstock did not immediately return a call for comment Thursday.
