The Albany Gang Unit has forwarded 160 cases to the district attorney’s office since January, and with recent arrests in a gang-related murder, it’s been a busy summer.
Lt. Tony Moore told the Gang Task Force at Thursday’s monthly meeting that the gang unit has charged 60 people with gang participation since January. One of the most recent arrests is Gregory Marshall, the suspected leader of a prominent Albany gang, who is charged with murder and gang participation in the June 23rd beating death of 32-year-old Reginald Richardson.
“It puts the community at relief. It puts the officers at a relief. It probably does create some havoc and disarray to the gang and the membership of this gang,” Lt. Moore said.
Juvenile Court Judge Herbie Solomon also addressed the task force, and says they’ve seen an increase in juvenile gang participation cases, and an even bigger increase in violent juvenile crimes and burglaries.
