Undercover agents and informants key to busts
18 people in Tift County are charged with either operating an illegal gambling place with cash payouts and/or operating an adult entertainment establishment, but are there problems in Albany?
The answer is yes says Captain Craig Dodd with the Dougherty County Sheriff Department. But progress has been made. This past April, the Dougherty County District Attorney’s Office and Sheriff’s Department busted three convenience stores for having slot machines.
Combating illegal gambling begins with informants says Captain Dodd.
“It’s never the same people twice, and it’s never going to be anybody you expect it to be. The whole time they’re in there, they’re checking out what’s going, they’re playing the games, they’re talking to people, seeing people winning and losing etcetera, and the owner is standing there paying people off in cash and has no idea what’s going on,” said Captain Dodd.
