The County says it will lower City rates, but pull money from the reserve fund

The Dougherty County Commission has spoken with the City in negotiating the landfill tipping fees.

Instead of raising the fee to thirty-four dollars a ton, they will raise the fee to thirty dollars a ton. The City pays the County twenty-five dollars a ton now and the nine-dollar hike would cause the City to, in turn, raise household fees. The County says the hike is due to the economy and major companies leaving the area, such as Mars and Cooper Tire.

County Commissioners now will have to take $173,000 out of the reserve fund to make up the difference.
