Former daycare center director sentenced to 5 yrs in federal prison
(AP) -- A judge has sentenced the former director of a south Georgia church daycare center to five years in federal prison for stealing more than $100,000.
U.S. District Judge Anthony Alaimo sentenced Harrietette Stafford Small on Monday. Prosecutors say 49-year-old Harriette Stafford Small used the money she took from the New Life Community Churchdaycare center in Brunswick from May 2005 through July 2006 to pay for her wedding, honeymoon, jewelry and a car, among other expenses.
She was convicted March 18 on 27 charges of forging checks, bank fraud and aggravated identity theft. Small said she was owed the money she took. She must pay back the amount stolen besides her time behind bars.
