Police say Johntava Demond shot Hakeem Bateman in the chest

 A 20-year-old Tifton man has been arrested and charged with the May 9 shooting of an 18-year-old man who remains hospitalized.

Police say Johntava Demond shot Hakeem Bateman in the chest.   The shooting took place on College Avenue.  Jones was arrested Friday and charged with aggravated assault.  Bateman is in stable condition and remains a patient at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Police say a confrontation between Jones and Bateman that happened at a block party on Old Omega Road earlier in the night is believed to have led to the shooting.
