Dougherty County Sheriff’s Captain Craig Dodd says to avoid it at all costs
Dougherty County law enforcement officials say getting involved in an illegal gambling ring can cost you everything.
The Dougherty County District Attorney and Sheriff’s office arrested A&J Food Mart owner Hemang Patel for reportedly having slot machines at his stores. They raided Patel’s and two other stores and found more. District Attorney Greg Edwards says those already struggling from the poor economy are the ones most likely to gamble. Dougherty County Sheriff’s Captain Craig Dodd says to avoid it at all costs, because slot machines are controlled by a computer that sets the amount of wins each machine can give out. Dodd says tens of millions of dollars leave Georgia each year from illegal gambling. He says they’ll repossess homes, cars, and any assets to get that money back.
“Everything within that organization that can be proved to be connected to the tainted money or the illegal money is forfeited,” said Dodd.
The only legal gambling in Georgia is the Georgia Lottery.
