Heritage Bank in Albany is helping over 500 elementary students learn the importance of saving money.

Today is Teach Kids to Save Day and Heritage Bank started with fourth and fifth graders at St. Teresa’s this morning.  Marketing Director Mary Beth Hobby says most parents teach kids how to do chores, but only 34 percent teach them how to balance a checkbook.

“So one's a life skill, but one's a necessity,” said Hobby.

Each student got a piggy bank to start saving.
