The water levels need to be lowered in order to move the debris so the gates can close properly
Starting next week, the water levels in Lake Chehaw will be lowered.
With all the rain we've had recently, trash and debris have accumulated and wedged against the gates that used to maintain the proper water levels in the lake. The water levels need to be lowered in order to move the debris so the gates can close properly.
“But the big thing is that property owners that are there that have boats in the water, they're gonna need to secure their boats, you know, get them to high land,” said Jay Smith with Georgia Power.
Smith says boats tied to a dock will be sitting on the lake bottom after the water is lowered. The process will take about two weeks.
